Jolla has started selling its first Sailfish OS smartphone in Finland through DNA, one of country’s fixed-line and mobile telecoms network.
Powered by Qualcomm’s dual-core processor clocked at 1.4GHz, Jolla’s smartphone has a 4.5-inch 960 x 540 in-plane switching (IPS) touchscreen display protected by Gorilla 2 Glass, 16GB internal storage that is expandable using microSD card slot, 1GB RAM, 8-megapixel rear camera and a 2-megapixel front shooter. Connectivity wise, the smartphone supports the network options including GSM/3G/4G support, 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Jolla is expected to sell the SIM-free version for £330 (about €399).
The major difference here is Sailfish OS’ gesture-based user interface with support for live multitasking. Jolla has put in a startup wizard, which according to the company, would guide users to select the applications that they would actually require. The Finnish company has also promised regular over-the-air system updates.
Jolla said that users will be able to download Android app from the integrated Yandex app store and run them using the built-in Android runtime courtesy of Myriad Group AG.
