The Jeep Grand Cherokee has had made many fans since it first appeared 1993. It has since defined the Mid Sized SUV category and has become the, off road shopping, vehicle of choice for many a suburban family. The Cherokee has been through several complete overhauls since the first model and each upgrade has generally been met with approval.
The current model was last restyled in 2010, but still looks very fresh in 2013 and has won a strong endorsement by winning first place, in the Mid Sized SUV category, of the Cars.com/USA Today Challenge. This is added to the already large trophy cabinet at Jeep HQ of the most awarded vehicle in its class.
The Challenge, organized jointly by Cars.com and USA Today, comprised of a serious of tests and evaluations carried out by media outlet experts and a family of four. Each car was driven on different roads to give an accurate idea of average fuel economy then, back to back testing of each car on the same route to directly compare the handing, comfort and ride. Then the family was sent off on an outing for them to individually evaluate each car.
The results speak for themselves, as the Cherokee came out on top and not surprisingly when you look at the vehicle. A spokesman for the company said that they were very happy to have won this award and outlined what was coming up with the Jeep Grand Cherokee in 2014. A new EcoDiesel engine will be available that promises 30 mpg and gives a massive range of 730 miles. Also an, all new, eight speed gearbox will be available to drive either the 3.6 Liter V6 or the 5 Liter V8 engines.
