British car maker Jaguar has returned to the entry-level luxury car market with the launch of its cheapest sedan, the Jaguar XE priced at just 27,000 pounds in Britain.
The company, with the new car, targets women and young drivers and would take on the challenge from BMW 3 series priced at 23,550 pounds in Britain and also the Audi, Mercedes-Benz models.
The car was put up for preview for a select guest of VIPs at Earls Court in London on September 8. The guests included Olympian Sir Steve Redgrave, footballer Gary Lineker and fashion designer Stella McCartney, among others.
The XE sports sedan is a five-door sedan and comes with a sleek design. Jaguar says that the new car is one of the most aerodynamic models due to a smooth under floor, which helps to reduce drag and the rear end to increase down force.
The XE has a 3-litre V6 engine from F-type, which produces 340PS (335bhp) and 450Nm torque, enabling the XE S to zoom from 0-62mph in 4.9 seconds and has a top speed of 155mph.
Jaguar said that more economical models, which would all have the new four-cylinder Ingenium engines, would join the range below the XE S.
The XE sports sedan and other cars in the series would be featured at the Paris motor show in October this year as part of the company’s two billion pound investment plan.
