Product planning manager for Jaguar Land Rover North America has revealed that the company is planning to expand its diesel line-up and it fact it is going to bring out diesel variants across its entire sedan and SUV lineup.
The announcement comes just a month before Land Rover’s first diesel vehicles in the US – the Range Rover Td6 and Range Rover Sport Td6 – are about to go on sale in the country.
“Over the next couple of years, we will have diesel available on the entire sedan and SUV lineup,” said Rob Filipovic, product planning manager for Jaguar Land Rover North America.
While the V-6 diesel engine is over 30 per cent more fuel efficient than its petrol counterpart, the same engine provides a driving pleasure as Land Rover’s 5.0-liter V-8 supercharged gasoline engine provides.
According to Alan Jones, JLR’s engineering director for diesel, the 3.0-liter V-6 diesel is 32 per cent more fuel efficient than the gasoline V-6 and the combined fuel economy for both Range Rovers is an estimated 25 mpg.
The new Range Rovers packs the diesel V-6 engine that generates 254 hp and 440 pounds-feet of torque at 1,750 rpm. The Range Rover Sport accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 7.1 seconds and the Range Rover in 7.4 seconds — nearly the same as the gasoline V-6.
According to previous announcement, the two new Range Rovers will be offered at a little higher price than their gasoline counterparts. The cars will cost about $1,500 more – the Range Rover Sport will set you back by $67,445, while the larger Range Rover will cost $20k more at $87,445.
