Millions from the Cupertino collective might be awaiting the iPhone 6 release date with bated breath, but over in the UK there doesn’t seem to be much optimism for a show-stopping Smartphone. Apple is expected to launch the iPhone 6 and/or the iPhone 5S in the fall, but the way things are looking right now it might not be a blistering success in Blighty.
In order to test the water ahead of the iPhone 6 launch, www.mobilephonechecker.co.uk conducted a survey involving 2,000+ UK consumers to see what they thought. And the results were quite surprising – a sizeable 65% of respondents predict poor sales for the next-generation iPhone.
As far as reasons are concerned, the majority of those less than convinced with the future of the iPhone believe that Samsung will continue shouldering Apple out of contention. What makes this particular prediction all the more interesting is that only 14% of those taking part actually owned a Samsung Smartphone at the time of the poll, while 34% were iPhone owners.
This of course does not bode well for the future of the iPhone in the UK.
Here a look at the five top reasons why UK consumers expect the iPhone 6 to struggle:
1. Samsung increasingly dominating phone market, will affect iPhone sales – 31%
2. It will be too expensive – 26%
3. Apple doesn’t build the quality products it used to – 23%
4. It will be too similar to iPhone 5 – 22%
5. People aren’t as excited about new iPhone releases as they used to be – 19%
All in all, 33% of consumers in the UK are confident that the iPhone 6 will be a success, which isn’t a great figure considering that 49% have great faith in the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini.
There’s still plenty of time for Apple to pull something magic out of the bag and silence a growing army of critics, but just what it will take to restore faith in the iPhone is quite the mystery.
