Since the 3rd incarnation of the iPhone the release of updates has followed a tried and tested pattern. So we know iPhone 3 leads to iPhone 3s and iPhone 4 to iPhone 4s, then there is little reason to doubt that iPhone 5 will lead to iPhone 5s in the fall. Both the updates from 3 to 3s and from 4 to 4s were internal rather than external, leaving the case of the phone unchanged and again it is safe to assume this will be the case again with the iPhone 5.
There are some leaked images of the supposed internals of the iPhone 5s which indicate a rearrangement of the insides of the same case as the current iPhone 5. Of course we need to always take such leaks with a pinch of salt but these do seem to make sense.
So assuming that the coming iPhone upgrade will look the same on the outside, it will certainly be very different when you slide the phone to open. This is because the ‘new’ iPhone will be running the latest version of Apples mobile operation system, iOS 7. It was the new iOS 7 that took up most of the presentation at the last Apple developer’s conference.
Apple says that they have completely redesigned it. What is does however look like is, a cosmetic retouch, to refresh the look of the GUI, rather than any significant changes or innovations. It rather looks like a vanity move by Apple as the current iOS is looking more than a bit dated. A very bad thing in the hugely competitive, fast moving, mobile market of today and something that Apple have fortunately seen the need to address.
