While rumours about the next version of Microsoft’s OS have started surfacing not much has been spoken about the next version of the Internet Explorer that comes as part of the OS until a little while and the latest rumours say that Internet Explorer 12 comes totally revamped and with better extension support.
IE 12 is reportedly internally code named as Spartan and Microsoft might stick to the name when it is rolled out generally. Several sources say that Internet Explorer 12 comes with a revamped UI with new features and with better support for third-party extensions.
A Microsoft engineer was quoted as saying that the company has decided to give a different name to the browser as opposed to the usual naming convention to get positive perception about it.
Microsoft’s Careers website also had a mention of the name ‘Spartan’ in the job description for engineers the company is looking for to take care of the shipping task completion of certain features of the OS.
Although the company has not shared anything publicly about the Windows 9 OS or the next version of the Internet Explorer in particular, sources refer to an Ask Me Anything session on Reddit when a Microsoft engineer spoke about the company’s plans to rename the browser to change the negative perception people have about the browser.
Some sources also claim that Spartan comes as an app and could get help from the company’s XAX project developed by the research wing, Microsoft Research.
XAX is defined by the company as a browser plug-in model which lets developers to use the tools, libraries, and programs to develop feature rich applications that could work smoothly on IE.
Windows 9 is expected to be generally released in April next year and there has been no information about whether or not a preview version of it will be included in the testing versions of the OS.
