Intel has decided to pull back its AppUp store owing to a shift in the market and consumer needs.
The chip maker’s AppUp store for PC apps, which was unveiled in January 2010, will breathe its last on March 11 this year confirmed Intel officials in a brief statement on the app store’s Website.
In an FAQ posted on the company’s website, Intel said that no new apps will be made available for download from the store after March 11. Applications will no longer receive any updates once the store closes, nor any product keys for the keyed apps will be sent by Intel.
Intel said: “Some of the apps in the store use a special technology which protects the app from being pirated/duplicated”. These apps however will work until May 15th, 2015.
Intel is also offering refunds for some paid apps. Refunds will be made available starting January 28 through to December 19 this year.
Intel officials revealed that they are always thinking about future because of which changes may have to be implemted today. “That’s why, on March 11, 2014, Intel AppUp center will come to a close as we focus on developing new and exciting PC innovations that will continue to shape your world”, said an Intel official.
