Brian Krzanich, Intel’s chief executive, has said that OEMs push might result in prices coming down over the coming weeks, resulting in $99 tablets, $299 Haswell laptops, and $349 2-in-1 hybrid notebooks and tablets.
Speaking with analysts during a conference call, Krzanich told that the touchscreen-based notebooks packed with Intel’s new Haswell processors will surely snatch the limelight this holiday season.
Intel is expecting that its Haswell silicon chips offering 50 percent better battery life combined with double the graphics power is going to lure buyers away from spending money on iOS and Android tablets and encouraging them to give a second chance to the exciting range of PC line ups.
Krzanich believes that around eight to ten new models running on Intel’s low-power Bay Trail chipset will be made available to the customers starting at a price range of $299. The new range of low priced tablets, notebooks and PCs might put pressure on the Android tablet market and might also prove to be a bad news for Microsoft’s Surface 2 tablets.
“We continue to see touch adoption come along,” said Krzanich.
Intel’s earnings results for this year’s third quarter were found to be better than expected with much improved cloud and server revenues. Company’s revenue stood at $13.48 billion in the third quarter registering a 5 percent increase as compared to previous quarter. Net income stood at 58 cents a share – a 49 percent increase from last quarter.
