Facebook’s Instagram has revealed that it is now a 400 million strong community with as many as 75 per cent of its members living outside of the US.
The image sharing site has managed to add 100 million customers in just over 9 months after it achieved the milestone of 300 million users in December 2014. In the new 100 million users who joined the photo sharing community, more than half live in Europe and Asia. The company further notes that Brazil, Japan and Indonesia added the most instagrammers.
Instagram notes in the announcement that while milestones like these are important, what gets them excited is how the visual communications such at the medium they provide makes the world feel a little bit smaller to every one of us.
“When Instagram launched nearly five years ago, 400 million seemed like a distant dream. Now, we continue to strive to improve Instagram — helping you experience the world through images and connect with others through shared passions”, Instagram said.
The most followed accounts include David Beckham from the UK, Caitlyn Jenner from the US, Indonesia’s Raffi and Nagita, German soccer player Toni Kroos and South Korea’s T.O.P.
