It seems like HTC is planning to bring the first 64-bit Android to the market, with the latest leaked advert for the HTC Desire 820 claiming it to be the “world’s first octa-core 64-bit phone.”
HTC has recently shared images of HTC 820 on its Weibo account with minimal information about what the innards of the phone will be. It will include a 64 bit processor, something Android phones have not had until now. Apple’s iPhone 5S is the first ever smartphone to bring a 64 bit processor.
With this move, HTC will become the first smartphone maker to offer an Android phone with such processor capacity. Alongside the processor, the announcement also includes the HTC-firsts about the Desire 820. It will be the first Android phone, first GSM/WiMAX 4G, the first phone to offer 1080p resolution, first UltraPixel camera. It will also include f/2.0 camera aperture for the first time.
Although the company has not shared anything more about processor it will use, there are wide speculations that it will be a Snapdragon 615 processor which has 8 Cortex A53 cores. It falls between Snapdragon 410 and Snapdragon 808/810 to suit a mid range phone while the other 2 processors are mostly found on low end and high end phones respectively.
HTC is expected to take the wraps off Desire 820 on September 4 at the IFA.
