HTC has confirmed that it will be launching at least one wearable gadget by end of 2014 and we believe it could very well be a smartwatch to rival Samsung’s Galaxy Gear and Sony Smartwatch 2.
In an interview with Bloomberg, HTC Chairman Cher Wang revealed that the Taiwanese smartphone vendor has been struggling to compete with other smartphone vendors and has been exploring other segments including wearable gadgets, smartwatches in particular.
“Many years ago we started looking at smartwatches and wearables, but we believe that we really have to solve the battery problems and the LCD light problems” said Wang.
Further, Wang also revealed that HTC One successor and renewed marketing efforts will turn around the fate of the company and will help HTC post profits after two years of straight decline.
Both Samsung and Sony have had average success with their smartwatches – probably because of lack of great functionality and if HTC aces in design and practical functionality with its smartwatch, chances are that the Taiwanese giant may find good number of customers. However, with Apple also rumoured to release its iWatch around the same time, there could be a fierce battle in the wearable tech segment as well.
