HP marks the start of the slew of announcements expected this week from various brands, with its Chromebook and an Android only SlateBook.
Mike Nash, vice president, Product Management, Consumer Personal Systems at HP said, “Today (1 June), we are announcing the next generation of laptops and two-in-one PCs, along with a new Chromebook that combine power, versatility and design for home and on the go.”
HP has made a bold move with SlateBook running Android KitKat that features a 14-inch HD touchscreen giving a complete Android experience. The NVIDIA Tegra 4 processor powering the device comes with up to 2GB of RAM and a 64GB onboard storage. The company claims it has about 9.25 hours of battery life.
HP is said to have made some tweaks to the apps to fit the 14-inch display. For a conventional PC like feel, the company has included a trackpad. Weighing roughly 3.75 pounds, it measures about 16 millimeters thick. The SlateBook is expected to hit shelves on August 6 with an initial price tag of $399.
Next in line is the Chromebook with an 11.6 inch screen and other design specs mimicking Chromebook 14. Its Samsung Exynos 5250 processor comes with a 2GB RAM and a 16GB in-built storage. However, HP fans may not be completely pleased with its 6.25 hours battery life.
With a 1,366 x 768 pixel resolution, it measures under an inch thick and weighs 2.7 pounds. Priced at $249 initially for the Wi-Fi model, there is also a yet-to-be-priced model which ships with built in 3G. HP has not yet revealed a release date for Chromebook PC, expected to hit the shelves in White and turquoise color options initially with promise for more colors to come later.
