HP is on the wearable quest and is walking down the pier hand in hand with the popular e-marketplace Gilt.com and designer Michael Bastian to bring a new smartwatch and test waters this autumn.
According to the fashion magazine Fashionista, HP approached Gilt.com to make the wearable which brought designer Bastian into the scene as a result of which a new smartwatch is in the making. Bastian will be working on the design while HP will take care of what goes under the hood.
It is said that Bastian wants the design to be like that of the interiors of a luxury car and hence the round dial would look like a dashboard. With three different leather straps, it is said to come in different sizes too with different types of target customers.
Unlike the regular Android wear smartwatches like Moto 360, it will be able to sync with both the Android and iOS platforms targeting a wide range of customers from both of the major players in the smartphone market.
In addition to the compatibility with both the dominant mobile operating systems, the watch will be able to offer regular remote control functions like displaying push notifications, checking for updates, controlling music, etc.
On the other hand, Apple’s iWatch is also expected to debut around the same time with a majority of the functions aiding the maintenance of fitness and health. However, there are also rumours that iWatch may not be launched due to manufacturing issues.
With a wide scope for smartwatches, it is unsurprising that HP is vying for a share of its own in the market. Financial Consultancy Deloitte has predicted that at least 10 million smartwatches will be sold this year.
