HGST, a Western Digital subsidiary, on Monday updated its Ultrastar line of solid-state drives (SSDs) to add new SAS SSDs with capacities up to 1.6TB.
The new drives, Ultrastar SSD800MH.B, SSD1600MM and SSD1600MR, available for purchase now, feature 20nm high endurance enterprise grade multi-level cell (MLC) NAND flash chips from Intel, capable of up to 12Gbps transfers via the SAS interface.
All the new drives include security options like Instant Secure Erase (ISE), Self Encrypting Drive, and TCG enterprise SED with Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) 140-2 certification and are capable of random read, random write performance of about 130,000 IOPS and 110,000 IOPS, respectively.
The Ultrastar SSD800MH.B is capable of sustaining up to 25 full random drive writes per day for up to five years, and is available in capacities of 100GB to 800GB.
The Ultrastar SSD1600MM is rated at up to 10 full random drive writes per day for five years, and offers capacities of 200GB to 1.6TB.
The last in the list, Ultrastar SSD1600MR is capable of 2 full random drive writes per day for up to five years and supports capacities of 250GB to 1.6TB.
Ulrich Hansen, vice president of SSD product marketing, said that HGST is currently in a position that it is capable of offering a complete enterprise storage portfolio with leading solutions in both product categories.
He added that the company is leading the SAS SSD industry and that it continues to be the preferred storage building blocks for server and storage systems that support a growing set of data-intensive enterprise applications.
