We might not all share their optimism, but a key analyst is predicting that the next iPhone will be popular enough to warrant closing the lid on the iPhone 5 once and for all.
And even more curiously still, the iPhone brought in to replace the iPhone 5 will not in fact be an upgrade, but the cheaper plastic iPhone 5S we’ve been hearing so much about.
According to prominent industry analyst Ming chi Kuo, the affordable plastic iPhone is being prepped to step in as the successor to the iPhone 5. He expects the unlocked iPhone 5C to retail for around the $400 contract-free, which could add up to an incredible success story across lower-end and developing consumer markets.
What makes his prediction particularly interesting however is the suggestion that despite the retirement of the iPhone 5, the iPhone 4S will remain in production. This will effectively leave Apple with no flagship iPhone in production, but rather a pair of stripped down iPhones with lower price tags.
That is of course until the iPhone 5S makes its grand debut later this year – the seventh-generation top-tier iPhone that’s become a subject of huge debate over recent months. Unlike previous iPhone launch dates, this will be the first time Apple’s Smartphone has filled the shoes of David facing a seemingly unslayable Goliath in the form of Android’s flagship arsenal.
With the likes of the HTC One, the Sony Honami, the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, the LG G2 and the Motorola Moto X all to contend with this fall, a walk in the park the iPhone 5’s arrival certainly will not be.
