Rockstar is yet to release its GTA V for PCs, but it seems that thousands of hopeful gamers still think that a PC based version of the game has already been released as they are busy downloading files through a legitimate-looking torrent.
According to a report on WCCF Tech, currently over 7000 users are connected through some or other client to download the files. Over 18GB in size, the setup files would obviously trigger an alarm to the all-knowing as the setup files on Xbox 360 are only 7.7GB in size.
Once a user successfully downloads the files and executes the setup files he / she is asked to complete a set of surveys wherein key information is requested. The user is promised a key file upon completion of surveys, but by the time the user is done with the surveys the PC is infected with malware. There are quite a few web based GTA V for PC scams that try to leverage the ignorance of gullible users – simple search on any search engine would reveal.
Rockstar is yet to detail information about its GTA V for PC. In a bid to force Rockstar to release a PC version, as many as 614,000 have already signed the petition on Change.org asking the company to port the game to PC. According to earlier reports an Intel executive had claimed that the game wouldn’t stay console exclusive for a long time and recent AMD Catalyst drivers indicate that GTA V for PC will be happening.
We would recommend our readers to stay away from such fake torrent files and scams on the web.
Heard about this, and apparently not everyone got the message so fast about it being bogus. My brother downloaded it through torch browser and it messed up his computer. Best to buy!
