Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto V has engraved a name for itself in the Guinness Book of World Records by becoming the highest grossing video game ever with the highest revenue earned within first 24 hours of its release.
The launch week of GTA V turned out to be a celebration week over at Rockstar as the broke quite a few sales records by garnering sales in tune of $800 million on the first day of its release by selling 11.21 million units. Rockstar amassed $1 billion in sales in just three days of release.
GTA V has broken six existing world records including best-selling action-adventure videogame in 24 hours, best-selling videogame in 24 hours, fastest entertainment property to gross $1 billion, fastest videogame to gross $1 billion, highest grossing videogame in 24 hours and highest revenue generated by an entertainment product in 24 hours. The game even went onto break “most viewed trailer for an action-adventure videogame” record.
Grand Theft Auto V, which was released on September 17 has smashed all previous records held by Call of Duty: Blacks Ops and the movies The Avengers and Avatar. Craig Glenday, Editor-in-Chief, Guiness World Records, said “GTA totally deserves to be recognised as an icon of modern British culture, and we’re thrilled to be able to feature the game in the record books”.
However, all is not well in the world of Grand Theft Auto as players of GTA Online are currently suffering from lost characters, missing in-game money and items. While Rockstar irons out these issues and finds out what’s causing them it has provided players with some tips to ensure that more players don’t end up repeating the same mistake that others have made.
