Google might have put its Android Silver Program behind, as an aftermath of Nikesh Arora, chief business officer leaving the company, to join SoftBank in July, claims a new report.
The Information claims that the program is currently “on hold,” with some Google employees expressing “serious doubts,” likely due to the departure of one of the key executive.
During the days at the company, Nikesh was in the process of negotiating deals with carriers, retailers and manufacturer. Google’s idea has received only “mixed reaction” from partners including carriers, manufacturers and retailers.
His departure is said to be the reason leading to Google’s decisions to hold the program, however, the program has not been laid to rest altogether. A revival is a distinct possibility, but may come albeit in a different format.
According to the report, it seems that from day one not everything has been well with the program with companies not expressing much enthusiasm for it and Aurora is said to have been behind it for keeping it afloat. Reports say that not even Google’s employees had much hope about the program.
In the heydays of the program’s initiatives, Google had hoped that the program would be a fit answer to assert its ownership of the Android brand.
Meanwhile, reports are rife that LG is in the making of a handset with Android Silver features heading to Sprint in the US.
