Google has updated iOS version of its instant messaging app Hangouts to a slew of new features including intelligent, one-tap location sharing and more.
The most notable is the one-tap location sharing feature. This feature will let users share their location with friends in a message with just one tap. Instead of asking “Where are you?”, in a message, users can now press one button to insert a Google Map into the conversation showing exactly where the person is.
Version 2.5.0 also allows users to set a status message, similar to other instant messaging apps such as BBM, WhatsApp. It also adopts the ‘last seen’ timeframe, something that is already available in other instant messaging apps like WhatsApp.
Google Hangouts on iOS now allows users to add their phone number to the app to find other people who may be using the app from their phone book. Users can also now access SMS and voicemail messages via their Google Voice account as well. There’s also a bunch of new sticker packs for those who like to communicate by means of cartoons.
Furthermore, Google has also made improvements to video call experience and fixed some bugs to enhance the overall app.
Hangouts for iOS version 2.5.0 is currently available for download at the App Store. The update is compatible with iOS 7.0 or higher devices.
