Google has launched a new device for video conferences aiding businesses to set up, run and manage their business meetings dubbed Chromebox for Meetings.
The $999 Intel Core i7-based ASUS setup will come with four USB ports, a Logitech HD camera that automatically switches resolutions based on bandwidth, a microphone with a volume control, built-in DSP and a remote control that includes a full QWERTY keyboard on the back and connects to the Chromebox over a nano-sized USB adapter.
Anyone with Google+ Hangouts app installed in their device and a Gmail address can join a video conference meeting. A maximum of 15 people will be able to take part in a Chromebox video conference using their smartphones, tablets, laptops or other internet linked computers.
The $999 price tag includes first year’s management and support fee of $250. Chromebox is available in the US starting today. For the first year users need not pay any additional costs, but from the second year onwards $250 will be charged per year. Google, over the next few months, plans to release the device in more countries, including Australia, Canada, France, Japan, New Zealand, Spain, and the UK.
Google confirmed that Dell and HP will be launching Chromeboxes for meetings in the coming few months.
