As part of the service package specially designed to pillar internet access in the most disturbed and restricted areas; protect websites from massive DDoS attacks; and general internet users visualize and keep tabs on DDoS attacks as they happen, Google has unveiled three different technologies – uProxy, Project Shield & Digital Attack Map.
Google’s UProxy will allow people living in conflict-ridden regions and in regions where internet access is restricted by the government to go online. The search engine giant’s main motto behind the technology is to offer internet access to people struggling with internet access in places like China, Cuba, Iran, Syria and North Korea, said Google Ideas Director and ex U.S. State Department official, Jared Cohen.
The idea is that users in the US can give unrestricted access to their ‘trusted’ friends in Iran or other such restrictive countries. Users located in such countries will have access to unfiltered and uncensored access to the Internet which is encrypted. Governments of these countries will not be able to detect what is happening as the traffic would look as if its voice or chat traffic. See video below.
Project Shield, another technology initiative by Google has been designed to protect non-governmental organizations, news organizations, human rights activists from DDoS attacks. There are those companies that have the infrastructure to protect themselves from huge DDoS attacks, but there are those who don’t have the resources or the expertise to fend off attacks of even smallest of proportions. Project Shield is the solution derived from Google’s expertise and strength at protecting against DDoS attacks. See video below.
Google has also announced its third tool dubbed Digital Attack Map developed in collaboration with Arbor Networks, a DDoS prevention specialist firm. Digital Attack Map is a visualization tool which will enable to locate DDoS attacks as they occur around the globe. Users will be to explore historical trends and related news reports of website outages as they are happening. See video below.
The company unveiled its new protection technology tools at the Google Ideas Summit held in New York on Monday. All the new products are still in testing phase, confirmed Google.
