Google has been dragged to court again over ‘Innocence of Muslims’ video and this time by none other than the actress in the video, Cindy Lee Garcia.
The ‘Innocence of Muslims’ video was uploaded on YouTube in mid-2012 in the form of two different trailers, which are believed to have the primary reason behind riots in the Middle East during that time. Garcia made a mere 5-second appearance in the trailer and for this short role she received death threats.
Garcia initially filed a lawsuit against YouTube to takedown the video, but this was rejected by the court. However, the 9th US Circuit Court of Appeals upheld her claims and it was ordered that Google and YouTube remove the video in February this year within 24 hours.
However, the video is still available and Garcia managed to find as many as 852 channels on which the ‘Innocence of Muslims’ video has been uploaded and for each of the channel the actress is demanding $150,000 taking the total demand to a whopping $128 million.
Garcia claims in the filing that video being available from any computer in the world is a direct violation of the earlier court order and Google continues to profit illegally from the traffic the channels receive on which the video has been uploaded.
