Google hasn’t been too vocal about its smartwatch plans, but new reports indicate that Google branded smartwatch is in the last stages of development and that it will soon enter production line.
According to the Wall Street Journal, the smartwatch will enter mass production ‘within months’ and will launch sometime in 2014. The report also indicates that the smartwatch will run Android mobile operating system, will integrate with Google Now, will use as much less power as possible saving its users from frequent charging.
From the functionality point of view, Google’s smartwatch will integrate with smartphones and tablets and will sync information such as travel schedules, appointments, etc.
Google has already filed a patent for a wristband-like device that has a flip-up display, Wi-Fi connectivity, tactile user interface – all the components that one would normally find on a smartwatch.
Samsung, Sony, Pebble have already released their smartwatches and it seems that they are still not there. They do provide with sync and notification capabilities, but users are not finding them all that useful despite. There have been reports in Samsung’s supply chain that Galaxy Gear is seeing as much as 30 percent return rates in the US alone.
We had earlier reported on the possibility of Google unveiling a smartwatch dubbed Gem in October, but the dates have come and gone by without bearing any fruits. However, the thing to note is that Google has all the right ingredients for a perfect smartwatch and it may very well come up with world’s first true smartwatch.
