Recent reports suggest Google could roll out an update to its latest Android version ‘Android 5.0 Lollipop’ dubbed ‘Android 5.1’ in the early months of 2015.
According to a report on AndroidPIT, citing ‘trusted sources closer to the matter’, Android 5.1 is expected to land in February next year even before many smartphones and tablets receive the new Lollipop OS.
The report also lists issues that will allegedly be addressed in this next major release. The update is expected to boast improvements to RAM management, fix issue with the ‘sudden app closures’, correcting the excessive consumption of network devices when Wi-Fi is active, issues with wireless connections, problems with the ‘OK Google’ function, notification issues, sound problems on select devices and other minor changes and bug fixes.
In addition, Android 5.1 is also expected to bring back the silent mode feature that was removed in the Android 5.0 Lollipop OS as well as changes in Google’s Material Design colour palette.
Announced in October, Android 5.0 Lollipop was pushed on to Google Nexus devices in November. The new OS was recently made available for users of the high-end Samsung Galaxy S5 in Poland. Google is also currently rolling out a minor Android 5.0.1 update that addresses certain issues in Nexus devices.
As of December 1st, Lollipop had not been registered on more than 0.1 percent of Android devices that touch Google’s servers. This means that majority of the devices that are yet to receive Android 5.0 Lollipop will have to wait until Q1 2015 to get the first version five update.
