At this point in time the iPhone has become yesterday’s news – those with a taste for all-things new and exciting in the Smartphone world are hankering after the Google Nexus 5. The LG Nexus whet the whistles of millions with a taste of what the Nexus branding could really bring to a Smartphone, following the previous and decidedly less exciting Samsung Galaxy Nexus.
And now we’ve been gifted with the incredible Google Nexus 7 2 that delivers more bang-for-buck than any tablet we’ve seen to date, we’ve every reason to believe that the Google Nexus 5 Smartphone will be the game-changer the market really needs.
But the big question hanging over the industry remains that of when Google will actually launch the thing, not to mention who’s building it in the first place.
There’s fresh talk of LG once again being in-line to develop the Nexus 5, which would make plenty of sense given the success of the LG Nexus 4. Rumor has it that the next-generation Nexus Smartphone will be built around the extraordinary LG G2, though won’t quite match up to it in raw power stakes as a means to keep costs down.
And then of courses there’s both Motorola and Asus still in contention – both of which are entirely possible candidates.
As for the big question of when we’ll see it, it’s important to factor another crucial element into the equation – Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie. It’s hard to envisage a major name like Google having any trouble coming up with the hardware, but as we’re yet to see version 4.3 Jelly Bean rollout to the Android world by way of updates, chances are Android Key Lime Pie won’t be with us for quite some time.
It’s not exactly a secret that the Nexus 5 will debut Android 5.0 as one its min party-pieces, so by proxy we have to sadly forget about the new Google Smartphone arriving any time before the second quarter of next year at least.
But still, chances are it will be well and truly worth the wait, if you can hold out that long.
