HP has announced Chromebook 11 – a featherweight and low-power laptop that runs Google’s internet centric operating system Chrome OS.
Despite the low outlay HP has incorporated quite a few features in Chromebook 11 that are in line with Google’s own Pixel laptop. With a sleek design, the Chromebook is built using plastic frame with rounded corners with speakers tucked under the keyboard so as to ensure that the sound doesn’t get suppressed even when the user has the laptop in his / her lap.
Powered by the ARM based Samsung dual-core Exynos 5250 processor, the Chromebook 11 packs 2GB RAM, and 16GB solid state drive. Google is offering 100GB online storage through Google Drive to all those who buy Chromebook 11.
Some of the other features of Chromebook 11 include 2 USB 2.0 ports, Wi-Fi, optional LTE, and audio jack. The laptop’s display measures 11.6-inches diagonally with a resolution of 1366 by 768 pixels and weighs 2.3 pounds. Chromebook 11 packs a 2,300mAh battery which can be charged through a microUSB port and comes with a charger that resembles those available with today’s smartphones.
The reason behind just 16GB of storage is that Chrome OS is an internet-centric OS and most of the apps unlike those on Windows and Mac platforms don’t run locally. Chromebooks rely heavily on continuous Internet connections to run Gmail, Google Docs and other online services. Almost all documents are storage online on Google Drive or other cloud storage services as per user’s settings.
