Google has now included Indian schools under ambit of its global scheme of introducing and promoting the use of laptops in education sector.
The programme will be kicked off from the state of Andhra Pradesh with four schools getting 25 Chromebooks for free. The pilot, being run in collaboration with Andhra Pradesh’s department of IT, aims to target students of grade 9 and 10. Mentors will be assigned for each school who will train teachers and instructors will be first trained on using the Chromebooks as well as Google’s online learning tools.
According to officials of the local government each of the schools will be provided with Wi-Fi connectivity of 1Mbps as well as power backups.
Google hasn’t officially announced the programme yet and a spokesperson said, “Google aims to increase access to information and knowledge for all students, and encourages tools that support effective teaching and learning in the classroom, but we have nothing to announce at this time.”
Google has successfully run the scheme in about 3,000 schools across the US, Malaysia and Singapore.
