Google Glass – 5 elegant frames and 8 sleek polarized shades – the new DVF | Made for Glass collection, is heading to the Explorer Program for more choices, from the doors of American fashion designer Diane von Furstenberg’s studio on June 23.
Google in collaboration with the fashion designer Diane von Furstenberg, has created the new range of Google glasses to be exclusively available for sale on Google Explorer site and online fashion retailer Net-a-Porter. DVF-designed frames with Glass and prescriptive lenses will come with a price tag of $1,725, while von Furstenberg’s sunglasses plus Glass will be around $1,620.
“Starting June 23, you can purchase the collection exclusively on +NET-A-PORTER and google.com/glass, which includes five new frames and eight new shades to give you even more ways to make Glass your own,” wrote Google announcing the DVF collection in a Google+ post. “At that time, you’ll also be able to purchase the Titanium collection on +MR PORTER.”
Diane von Furstenberg and Google first collaborated on a short film ‘DVF Through Glass,’ giving an insider’s view of the +DVF Spring 2013 runway show. The teams have extended their partnership and the development of DVF | Made for Glass collection, will have DVF’s long-time licensing partner – Marchon Eyewear, manufacturing limited edition line of frames and shades exclusively.
“I’m old enough to have danced at Studio 54 and young enough not to have missed the digital revolution,” Diane von Furstenberg said.
“I have always been fascinated by technology and as a brand, DVF embraces technology. It is a very natural fit for us and we are delighted to be on the forefront with Glass.”
Isabelle Olsson, lead designer for Google Glass said “We’re thrilled to collaborate with DVF once more to further transform eyeglasses – the oldest wearable technology in human history – into something modern and fashionable.”
Venture Beat notes that Google has been under fire for the Glass design in the past with Designer Marc Newsom stating he “wouldn’t be seen dead wearing” Google’s “pretty stupid” designs. He said “It’s such a fantastic piece of technology but you just look like a complete dick when you drive around on it.”
