Android KitKat’s growing popularity is evident from the fact that the mobile OS’s latest iteration is currently running on one in five Android devices.
According to the latest Android adoption figures released, Android KitKat, version 4.4 of Google’s mobile operating system which debuted in October 2013, currently accounts for a market share of 20.9 percent as against 17.9 percent in July and 13 percent in June.
The latest figures revealed that all three Android Jelly Bean versions still tops the distribution list accounting for more than half of the market at 54.2 overall percent down from last month’s 56.5 distribution percent.
The original Jelly Bean version 4.1.x remained to be the most popular Android variant with 26.5 percent of devices, followed by version 4.2.x covering 19.8 percent share and latest Jelly Bean version 4.3 covering for a mere 7.9 distribution percent.
Android Gingerbread, unveiled back in 2010, still accounts for 13.6 percent of the devices. Ice Cream Sandwich’s market share dipped down to 10.6 percent as compared to 11.4 percent last month, while Froyo is at the last spot with 0.7 percent market share.
Google noted that the data is collected from the new Google Play Store app covering a seven day period to 12 August.
The Android distribution statistics is likely to change with the autumn release of Google’s next Android version dubbed Android L.
