Google has released a small update for its Google Drive app for both Android and iOS making it easier for users to search and share files more easily. Google has also made it possible to send files on Google Drive through Gmail as an attachment rather than just sharing the link.
First up Google Drive for Android now features support for voice search. All you have to do is “OK, Google — search for [file name] on Drive” and you will be able to locate your file without opening the app or typing any keywords.
It’s not that the Drive app for Android didn’t support voice search, but to do so you had to open the app first and then tap on the search icon and then hit the mic button to active voice search – something that was seemingly a long process as compared to just saying ‘OK Google’.
Secondly Google Drive for iOS now features ability to upload files to your Google Drive from other apps. This feature is only available to iOS 8 users though.
Third – a feature that is common to both Android and iOS apps – is the ability to access and share custom maps with Google My Maps.
In an update not related to Google Drive, Gmail users will now find it easier to share documents by being able to attach a document from Google Drive rather than just the link.
“The Android update will roll out over the next week or so and the iOS app is already available on the App Store. Visit g.co/getdrive from your device for the latest”, reads a post on the official Google+ Google Drive account.
