Google is reportedly prepping for another go at its TV efforts with the second time effort dubbed as ‘Android TV’ – something that is similar to Apple TV, Roku and recently released Amazon Fire TV.
The Verge, which managed to get its hands on one of the internal documents talking about ‘Android TV’ claims that the document describes how the product will work.
Google in those documents state: “Android TV is an entertainment interface, not a computing platform,” and that “It’s all about finding and enjoying content with the least amount of friction.” The document also claims that the search engine giant is looking to make a TV product that is “cinematic, fun, fluid, and fast.”
Google TV wasn’t received with open hands because of its slow response times, complexity and difficulty in operations. This led the Android maker to not only go back to the drawing board, but also rebrand its product to ‘Android TV’.
“Android TV is Android, optimized for the living room consumption experience on a TV screen,” the document reads.
The platform will be open to developers and apps such as Hulu Plus, Netflix, Vevo, Pandora and other Google services will be support right out of the box, it is claimed. ‘Android TV’ won’t be just limited to TV viewing and will also support Android games.
The Verge also claims that Google is trying to get more and more developers on board for a variety of apps for the upcoming device. No date has been provided in the document, but it is expected that Google will unveil Android TV during Google I/O 2014 and then could make it available for purchase soon after.
