This year Golden Joystick award saw GTA clinching the Game of the Year title, while steam managed to snatch away the Best Gaming Platform award beating the likes of Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
GTA V, the record breaking game, is the fastest game title ever and according to some estimates the game will sell an additional 25 million units next year. The game cost around £170m to make and it managed to earn four times that in just 3 days of its launch. The GTA franchise has shipped well over 150m units since its first edition was launched back in 1997.
Golden Joystick is one of the most voted and one of the oldest gaming awards saw the Best Gaming Platform award being snatched away by Steam. The Last of Us managed to win two awards – Best Newcomer and Best Storytelling; Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was awarded Most Wanted title, while BioShock Infinite won the Best Visual Design award.
Some of the other winners from the event include Mark of the Ninja – Best Indie Game; Payday 2 – Best Multiplayer; Far Cry 3 – The Definition of Insanity – Best Gaming Moment; Naughty Dog – Studio of the Year; Oculus Rift – Innovation of the Year; World of Tanks – Best Online Game Assassin’s Creed III: Liberation – Best Handheld Game; Yogscast – YouTube Gamer Award; COM: Enemy Unknown – Best Mobile/Tablet Game of the Year; Activision: Call of Duty – Hall of Fame; and Ken Levine – Lifetime Achievement.
