A recently leaked video shows Google’s next version of Gmail app for Android with support for third party email accounts. Gmail 5.0 is expected to launch sometime alongside Android 5.0 Lollipop early next month.
The 30 second video leaked by Android Police, though too short to give a clear glimpse into an app, takes users through the different features of the app. The video shows that the app will have features that let users access other email accounts like Yahoo or Outlook, without leaving the app.
Although the video seems to have come from Google, a Google spokesperson responded that the company would not comment on speculations or rumours.
The app’s design is similar to the Material Design aesthetic the company revealed during the I/O show earlier this year. However, this will not be the first app to receive the design feature as other apps such as Hangouts and Newsstand have already got the change ahead of the Gmail app.
It is strongly expected that the apps in Android 5.0 Lollipop will also have the same design aesthetic with round pictures for avatars, animations and shadow and lighting effects that show icons and buttons in 3D.
The video reveals that users can switch directly to other email accounts by swiping on top of the app. It also says that the app will have a fresh look with all the features expected by users. The compose window also seems to have received more white space for better typing and viewing.
Other features of Android L are multiple user accounts, guest user mode and additional controls. It also offers encryption by default.
