PlayJam’s $80 Android gaming device GameStick has been embroiled in delays, but it seems that the wait was worth it and may soon hit the streets as the device’s optional docking station has received FCC approval.
The GameStick is basically a fat version of a USB flash drive which allows users to play Android games on a TV – small enough that it won’t have other connectivity options. This is something that probably didn’t go well with industry analysts and initial backers alike – probably even GameStop which entered into a partnership with PlayJam during Game Develop Conference earlier this year.
PlayJam worked on the connectivity question and developed an option docking station for all those who are looking to do more with the console. The delay in hitting retail status was mainly due to the lack of approval from FCC, but with that out of the equation now, we expect that GameStick will hit streets by October end.
Thanks to the GameStick Dock, users will now have a couple of more USB and HDMI ports will allow users to hook up a mouse, keyboard, mic or any other USB peripheral that is supported. Using the Ethernet jack they can connect to the Internet and the SD card slot will allow for more storage.
Further, users will also be able to charge the controller by placing it on top of the dock such that the pins are lined up and LED start flashing.
