Flipboard, the popular social magazine app, is revamping the cover stories section with a new look and feel bringing them closer to physical magazines giving users access to important and personally relevant content on top. The stories will be organised for users by source, social network and topic.
With this update, Flipboard claims that the new cover stories will learn how a reader uses the app and will feature content from sections the reader pays most attention as it focuses on serving articles to its readers based on their browsing habits and subscriptions.
The company, in addition to the redesigned cover stories, is bringing in an organisational structure to its ‘Weekend’ section, featuring a variety of groupings, with the story group indicated at the top of each page.
Flipboard co-founder and CEO Mike McCue said: “In the early days, we did a great job at presenting content in a way that’s magazine-like, but what we haven’t done yet is structure that content in a way that feels like a magazine. That’s what we’re starting to do now.”
The new version of Flipboard also includes an option to flip through articles and add bookmarks to Safari Reading List, copy the URL of an article and add it to your magazines in Flipboard, bug fixes and performance improvements. Flipboard is trying to make a push by organising the articles in various topics and sources to provide a more personalised news experience to each user.
Flipboard says the new update with redesigned cover stories is not going live for all users immediately, but will be a gradual rollout over the next week to ensure there aren’t any mishaps.
