Feedly and Evernote have been at the receiving end of a large DDoS (distributed denial of service) attack thereby unable to service requests from genuine users as they battle it out against the perpetrators.
Feedly went offline a few hours back and in a message posted on its blog, the RSS service acknowledged that it was a target of a DDoS attack.
“Criminals are attacking feedly with a distributed denial of service attack (DDoS)”, noted Feedly. “The attacker is trying to extort us money to make it stop. We refused to give in and are working with our network providers to mitigate the attack as best as we can.”
In another update about four and a half hours later Feedly revealed that it was making changes to its infrastructure to tackle the DDoS and bring the service online. Feedly assured that the services will be online, but stressed that it will be a few hours before the service will be fully restored.
Evernote was also at the receiving end of a DDoS that took down both its web based service as well as connectivity through mobile apps.
The first message from Evernote, about 18 hours back, came in the form of a generic message about the service being down and that it is working to resolve the issue.
That didn’t change for two hours and about 16 hours back Evernote acknowledged that it was under a DoS attack. “We’re actively working to neutralize a denial of service attack. You may experience problems accessing your Evernote while we resolve this.”
The service has been restored as of this writing, but certain users are still unable to connect at times as according to Evernote it will take nearly 24 hours before the service is completely restored.
