Facebook is going to the pull the plug on Messenger for Windows and Firefox on March 3 according to message that has popped up on top of the app.
“We’re sorry, but we can no longer support Facebook Messenger for Windows, and it will stop working on March 3, 2014. We really appreciate you using Messenger to reach your friends, and we want to make sure you know that you can keep chatting and view all your messages on http://www.facebook.com,” reads the message.
The news comes just days after Microsoft announced at MWC 2014 that Facebook Messenger app was coming to Windows Phone 8 devices. Facebook has maintained that it will not be shuttering the messenger apps for various mobile platforms and they will keep on working as normal.
Users of Facebook Messenger for Firefox are also reportedly getting a similar alert message.
Facebook Messenger for Windows doesn’t have the installer option anymore and the official Facebook Messenger page has gotten rid of the Windows Messenger icon. Also, the page just reads ‘Available now for Android and iPhone’.
Facebook retired its @facebook.com email system earlier this week probably because the service failed to make it mark and offer any value addition to its users.
