Facebook is reportedly testing a new self-destructing post feature similar to Snapchat that will allow users to schedule the deletion of their posts.
As reported first by The Next Web, Facebook has already rolled out the new feature to a handful of Facebook iOS app users who took it to Twitter to share about it with screenshots.
The screenshots revealed that the new feature will allow users to schedule posts for deletion after either 1 hour, 3 hours, 6 hours, 12 hours, 24 hours, 2 days, or up to 7 days. The post will automatically be deleted from the users’ timeline after the scheduled time frame; however, they may be visible via offline backups and logs for up to 90 days.
A Facebook spokesperson confirmed the news stating that the company is running a small pilot of a feature on the social networking service for iOS that lets people schedule deletion of their posts in advance.
However, this isn’t the first time that the social networking giant is experimenting with self-destruction feature. Back in June, Facebook launched a standalone app dubbed Facebook Slingshot that mirrored many of Snapchat features. The company also launched a standalone Poke app in 2012 that allowed users to set a time limit for their text, photo or video messages.
Facebook is yet to disclose whether or not the new feature will be rolled out to all users.
