Facebook has removed the violent video of a women being beheaded after the video and its policy u-turn both went viral inviting fury from not only Facebook users, but also political leaders like UK Prime Minister David Cameron.
The removal comes just a day after it came to light that Facebook had lifted the ban on posting of beheading and violent videos on its social networking platform. The company on Monday confirmed that it will permit the posting of such violent acts only if users posting them “condemn” the violent acts and not celebrate them.
Facebook now says that it has strengthened its the violent image and video sharing policies. It will be a taking more “holistic” approach while considering the posting of a violent image or video on its website and will ensure that the user who shares such content provides with a warning or limits its view only to an age-appropriate audience notes All Things D.
The company further justified the removal of the beheading video saying that “Based on these enhanced standards, we have re-examined recent reports of graphic content and have concluded that this content improperly and irresponsibly glorifies violence. For this reason, we have removed it”.
Facebook on Tuesday also acknowledged the fact that its decision to permit posting of the video of the woman’s killing in Mexico was not socially ethical.
