Everything Everywhere announced that it has reached the 2 million 4G subscribers milestone just 14 months after launching the service and 4 months after reaching the 1 million subscribers milestone.
EE had a head start in the 4G services regime as it was allowed to utilized its existing spectrum and launch the services earlier than other mobile operators including Three, Vodafone and O2 in October 2012. Rivals started offering the 4G services in August 2013 after they bought new spectrum.
The company, a joint venture between France’s Orange and Deutsche Telekom, revealed that the sign-up rate for 4G services was the fastest outside of South Korea.
“This year, our network priority is to deliver the benefits of superfast mobile internet to more of the UK and invent even more innovative ways for our customers to make the most of their 4G experience”, said Everything Everywhere CEO Olaf Swantee.
The CEO is having a great success converting existing subscribers to 4G considering their better coverage and according to the company about two third of the converts are from Orange and T-Mobile subscribers.
The primary reason behind the increased adoption of 4G is the skyrocketing demand for mobile data and according to Everything Everywhere, data usage on its network grew by as much as 70 percent year on year with social media and video being the top most data consumers.
Chief Executive Olaf Swantee said Everything Everywhere was having particular success in converting its existing subscribers to 4G, with about two thirds coming from its Orange and T-Mobile brands.
The company will have 70 percent of the country under 4G coverage by end of January.
