Everything Everywhere has switched on world’s fastest 4G network with speeds of up to 300Mbps in East London’s Tech City with plans of London wide rollout slated for 2014.
EE will partner with select few companies in the Tech City aka Silicon Roundabout enabling them to try out the ultrafast speeds well before the service is made available publicly in 2014. The new technology based on carrier aggregation pegs the maximum speeds at 300Mbps. The technology works by bringing in 20MHz of 1800MHz spectrum and 20MHz of 2.6GHz spectrum and will use a CAT6 Huawei router.
The router is capable of providing high-speed Wi-Fi connectivity to up to 20 devices with 802.11ac compatible devices being able to access speeds of up to 200Mbps. Huawei will start selling LTE-A dongles capable of providing high-speed internet access as early as summer 2014 and LTE-A phones will be available from the second half of the year. As of now, LTE-A is only available to customers in Korea and Russia; however, it will be made available to customers in the US and UK soon.
Everything Everywhere is utilizing the spectrum it obtained from Ofcom earlier this year through auction and has claimed that it is the first part of its infrastructure that will be capable to support and meet with future demands of high-speed connectivity and data-hungry nation.
Everything Everywhere has claimed that over the next three years data usage in the UK will increase by 750 per cent as more and more businesses and consumers start performing most of their activities online.
