Ericsson CEO Hans Vestberg, who was reportedly being considered as one of the potential candidates for Microsoft CEO position, has told his company’s board he has no plans of leaving his current post and company.
Bloomberg, citing a person familiar with the matter, reported that at a board meeting held yesterday, the 48-year-old Vestberg said he will remain with the Swedish company, which is currently the world’s biggest telecoms equipment maker.
Another person familiar with the matter said that Ericsson Directors were fully ready to consider looking at a list of potential successors for the CEO post in case Vestberg is chosen for Microsoft’s CEO post. It was Bloomberg who reported earlier that Vestberg was being considered as a potential candidate to replace Ballmer.
Ericsson declined to comment on the report.
Microsoft’s CEO Search
Vestburg is not the only one to pull out of the Microsoft CEO race. Alan Mulally also officially removed himself from the potential candidate list earlier this month saying that he would remain at Ford at least through 2014.
Other candidates Microsoft is considering for the CEO post include Satya Nadella, its cloud-computing chief, and Stephen Elop, former Nokia Oyj CEO, as well as other outsiders, said people familiar with the recruitment. As the board hasn’t yet reached a decision yet, the list of potential candidates is still subject to change.
