Apple has promised that it will soon be encrypting emails to and from iCloud to other providers after a report by NPR shed light on how Cupertino only encrypts emails from and to iCloud, but not when these emails come from/go to Outlook or Gmail or other providers.
NPR reported that Apple only encrypts emails which are sent to or received from other Apple services including me.com and mac.com email addresses and it was one of the few companies that do not encrypt emails to/from other providers.
“Apple is one of the few global email providers based in the U.S. that is not encrypting any of its customers’ email in transit between providers”, read the report.
Soon after NPR published this report, Apple said that this would change and that it was working to provide encryption that will affect “users of me.com and mac.com email addresses”.
