Dropbox on Wednesday announced that it has reduced the number of Pro plans it currently offers from 3 to just 1 that will cost users £7.99 ($9.99) a month for 1 terabyte of storage space.
Announcing the latest move, Dropbox in a blog post said that the company is simplifying Dropbox Pro to a single plan at $9.99/month, but with 1TB (1,000GB) of space as it doesn’t want its customers to worry about choosing the right plan or having enough space.
Previously Dropbox users were offered 3 different Pro plans with 100GB, 200GB and 500GB of space, available for £7.99 ($9.99), £15.99 ($19.99) and £39.99 ($49.99) per month respectively. Now Dropbox Pro customers will be able to avail 1TB of storage space only for £7.99 ($9.99) per month.
In addition, Dropbox has also announced a slew of new features for its Pro customers including passwords for shared links, expirations for shared links, view-only and edit permissions for shared folders as well as remote wipe feature.
Pro users will now be able to add password-access to shared links as well as designate expiration dates for a shared link. They will also be able to give ‘Edit’ or ‘View Only’ permissions for those accessing shared files to ensure no one alters the content within.
Remote wipe feature will let Pro customers to delete shared folder in case their device is stolen or lost while keeping those same files backed up in Dropbox’s cloud.
By upgrading pro plan storage to 1TB and simultaneously slashing cloud storage cost to just £7.99 ($9.99) a month, Dropbox is likely striking back at rival Google and Microsoft’s cloud storage solutions. While Google offers 1TB for $9.99, Microsoft offers OneDrive 200GB accounts for $3.99 a month.
