Flappy Bird creator Dong Nguyen has revealed on Twitter that he will be taking down Flappy Bird from iOS and Android app stores today without giving out any specific reason.
Flappy Bird was created in mid-2013, but didn’t garner as much front stream media popularity or attention up until a few days back when the creator claimed in an interview with The Verge that the game was raking in $50,000 through in-app ad revenue per day. The game has already been downloaded 50 million times and 47,000 reviews in the App Store.
Nguyen’s announcement about pulling the app started off with a tweet that read “I am sorry ‘Flappy Bird’ users, 22 hours from now, I will take ‘Flappy Bird’ down. I cannot take this anymore.”
Ruling out legal issues Flappy Bird creator said, “It is not anything related to legal issues. I just cannot keep it anymore.”
Nguyen also revealed that he won’t be selling off the game to anyone else and that he will continue developing games.
Just a few days back Nguyen had revealed that he was planning a sequel to Flappy Bird and the latest announcement may come as a shocker to millions of its fans.
