Version 4.3.0 of the Internet Systems Consortium’s Domain Host Configuration Protocol, one of the most widely used implementation of DHCP on the Internet today, has been released.
“The major “theme” for ISC DHCP 4.3.x was to update the suport for DHCPv6 to include several of the features that have been available for DHCPv4″, notes Shawn Routhier in the DHCP 4.3.0 release notes.
Some of the features are support for use of classes; better logging of address assignments; support for using DHCPv6 relay options in expressions; and support for on_commit, on_expiry and on_release statements.
Version 4.3.0 also brings with it support for standard DDNS and enhanced support for dynamically adding and removing
subclasses via OMAPI.
However, there are few limitations in this version as well and ISC will be bringing support for these in the subsequent releases. Some of the limitations include: Only Solaris, Linux, FreeBSD, NetBSD, and OpenBSD are supported; and “host-identifier” option is limited to a simple token.
