Proving past rumours and conceding that it faced complex financial difficulties, Crytek has now sold its Homefront intellectual property along with other assets to its parent company Deep Silver while laying off a majority of the staff at Crytek USA.
Employees who were working on Homefront: The Revolution will be moved to Deep Silver Dambuster Studios, the new name of repurposed Crytek. However, the company has not mentioned whether Crytek UK has been shut down.
The company has said that several of its employees will remain to help with the CryEngine support for the developers who have already licensed the game-development engine.
Crytek USA also had the titles Hunt: Horrors of the Gilded Age on its agenda which is now transferred to the Frankfurt facility of Crytek. Crytek Frankfurt is known for Crysis and Ryse: Son of Rome.
While only Crytek USA suffers, it’s other studios in Istanbul, Budapest, Kiev, and Sofia will operate without any changes and a closer collaboration between the studios in Shanghai and Seoul is under review.
This announcement of acquisition follows shortly after Crytek said that it has acquired the capital required to resume operations a week ago without citing the source of the fund and paid out the pending salary to its employees.
News of Crytek employees not receiving pay checks has been surfacing frequently in the past and almost 100 employees handed in grievance letters earlier this month and it was rumoured that they do not plan to get back to working for Crytek.
Crytek still has game titles such as Warface, Arena of Fate and Hunt in its portfolio and the company has said that it has the resources required to develop and publish these games while also thanking its past and present employees.
