Apple’s recent smartphones, iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C, are not receiving similar attention as multiple reports are suggesting that iPhone 5S is outselling its colourful counterpart – even though Apple hasn’t officially revealed individual sales figures of the two handsets.
According to a survey conducted by Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP), out of the 500 respondents 64 percent picked up the iPhone 5s as compared to just 27 percent who purchased the iPhone 5c. CIRP had conducted a similar survey last year wherein it found that 68 percent of respondents had picked up the iPhone 5 as compared to 23 percent who picked iPhone 4S.
Mixpanel, on the other hand, has data that shows more activity on its network emanating from iPhone 5S (3.33 percent) as compared to iPhone 5C (1.06 percent) on the 5c as of October 14.
Apple hasn’t provided individual sales figures of its latest handsets, but has revealed that it sold 9 million new iPhones within the first three days of launch.
Data from surveys are only based on samples and all is not lost for iPhone 5C. According to CIRP co-founder Josh Lowitz, “Over time, the lower-priced phones have tended to gain share versus the flagship phone, after the initial rush of dedicated upgraders to the newest device.”
Lowitz expects iPhone 5C sales to increase over time and register higher share in the US market in months to come. Lowitz said that the handset will appeal to a completely different set of buyers – which hasn’t yet bought an iPhone yet.
