Apple made the headlines for one more wrong reason yesterday with reports flowing in that iPhone 5S is crashing with a blue screen of death (BSOD) because of some issues with multitasking in iOS 7. If you have been facing similar issues, don’t think that you are going crazy as data from a research firm indicates that iPhone 5S is more crash prone as compared to its predecessor the iPhone 5.
According to Crittercism iPhone 5S tops the app crashing charts when compared with iPhone 5 and iPhone 5C and apps on the TouchID equipped smartphone have a 2 percent chance of crashing as compared to just 1 percent on iPhone 5 and iPhone 5c.
Primary explanation behind this seems to be that developers didn’t have enough time to work on their apps to make them work seamlessly with the 64-bit A7 processor on-board the iPhone 5S. They have had enough time to study and work with iOS 7 and that explains why their iOS 7 compatible apps don’t crash as much on iPhone 5 and iPhone 5C which are powered by the A6 processor.
Despite the fact that Apple has adopted a new architecture for iPhone 5S, the transition has been a lot smoother than what has been on desktop PCs and laptops wherein developers had to write drivers and extra code for their software to work effectively.
Crittercism CEO Andrew Levy told AllThingsD that Apple is already aware of these issues and “it is doing a really good job of addressing these issues as they come up.”
Apple hasn’t officially commented on the BSOD issue thus far.
